But is that what he really wants? I think not. In 2003, during a Civil, Human, and Women's Rights Conference he said he is a "proponent of single payer universal health care plan." (i.e. government run health care). Here's the video:
If you can't understand the audio/video, here's the transcript word for word:
“How do we get the federal government to take care of its business? I happen to be a proponent of single payer universal health care plan. [applause] And there’s no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14%, 14% of it’s gross national product on health care cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody. And that’s what’s Jim’s talking about when he says, ‘everybody in…nobody out.’ A single payer health care plan…a universal health care plan. That’s what I’d like to see. But as all of you know we may not get there immediately. Because first we got to take back the White House, and we got to take back the Senate, and we got to take back the House.”
Obama is currently in a position to do just that. He has taken the White House and democrats rule the Senate and House. Passing a government run health bill will bring the country to it's financial knees. There is no way our economy can sustain a plan to cost over $1 trillion!
